(26 June 2017 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, successfully hosted the sixth series of its nationwide green activity “GO GREEN with NWDS” between 2 to 11 June to promote green and low-carbon living. Close to 25,000 customers were drawn to the activity, marking a year-on-year increase of 25% in customer participation. To further encourage customers to put eco-friendly practices into actions, the Company introduced two new themed activities, namely the “Low-carbon Food Festival・Special Rewards for Early Birds” campaign and “Loving Patchwork for the Environment” workshop, to educate the public on the importance of low-carbon diet as well as recycling and reuse.
NWDS has been proactive in reaching out to the communities and advocating education on environmental protection with an aim to converge the power of different stakeholders for the betterment of the environment. The Company carried its fine green traditions forward by hosting the sixth series of “GO GREEN with NWDS” this year. An array of inspiring activities was kicked off by the “Green Casual Wear Day” – a day when all NWDS staff wore green and decorated their offices with green plants to create a green workplace. On the customer side, NWDS stores held the “Green Rewards GO GO GO” campaign during the activity period to encourage customers to wear green to the stores and gave out close to 19,000 green gifts, including potted plants, reusable bags and green drinks, etc.
In addition to the above traditional activities, NWDS also introduced a brand-new and enthusiastically received “Low-carbon Food Festival・Special Rewards for Early Birds” campaign. The Company collaborated with more than 20 in-store food and beverage outlets to design low-carbon meal sets and encourage low-carbon diet by giving out premiums to customers who order these meals. Another new activity introduced this year was the “Loving Patchwork for the Environment” workshop. Over 100 customers took part and learned how to create various crafts with patches of used cloths for donation to charitable organizations. The workshop not only promoted the idea of recycling old cloths but also sowed the seed of a caring spirit. To tie in with the theme of this year’s series, many stores ran their own complementing activities. Some stores organized low-carbon cooking demonstrations or contests and invited customers to make specialty rice dishes, kimchi and rice dumplings, etc., filling the stores with the aroma of great food. Others organized low-carbon cycling activities to bring customers a unique green experience of visiting the countryside. There were also eco-friendly flower arrangements workshops during which customers could learn how to process fresh flowers and turn them into lasting dried flower art. The above activities promoted low-carbon lifestyles in all directions.
Ms. Violet Chan, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Communication and Investor Relations and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “NWDS is always committed to reaching out to the communities to promote environmental awareness and educate the public through our stores to foster greater green energies. Consumers’ increasing health-consciousness constantly motivates us to enrich the content of ‘GO GREEN with NWDS’. Therefore, we initiated to work with in-store eateries for the first time to launch the low-carbon food festival to offer better and healthier food choices to our customers. Going forward, we will continue with the direction of low-carbon lifestyles and roll out more diversified green activities that are closely relevant to our everyday living as our way to encourage customers to adopt environmentally-friendly practices from all directions.”
