(4 June 2013 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in the PRC, has always been committed to environmental protection. To echo with the United Nations’ World Environment Day on June 5, NWDS will organize a nationwide environmental activity called “Go Green with NWDS” from June 5 to 16, which will be kicked off by tomorrow’s “Green Causal Wear Day”, aiming to raise customers and employees’ awareness on environmental protection and cultivate a green living attitude.
“Go Green with NWDS” is one of the most important annual environmental activities in NWDS. Under this year’s theme of “Green Living, Protect the Earth”, “Green Causal Wear Day” will be held on the first day as its flagship program. All NWDS staff, including those working in outlets, offices, and back offices, are encouraged to dress in green or wear green accessories to bring a refreshing green concept into workforce, facilitating the formulation of a strong green force in the organization.
During the event, the Company will organize a series of environmental-friendly sales promotion campaigns, such as “Green Rewards GO GO GO” and “Seedlings Adoption Program”, to promote green living while offering a delightful shopping experience to the customers. Customers wearing green attires or accessories will be entitled to get gift vouchers or green gadget gifts upon any purchase. Furthermore, customers spending at a specified amount can “adopt” a small green plants or seedlings to help creating a greenery home while nurturing a green mindset. Concurrently, NWDS will organize many interesting green activities, such as Green Wedding Gown Exhibition, Green Gourmet Week, Green Health Seminar, Small Saplings Environmental Bags Drawing Competition and “Green Pioneer” Exhibition etc., to educate people from all walks of life on how to practice environmental protection in everyday life, and further spread the environmental messages far and wide.
In addition, in line with this year's theme, the Company has specially designed a lively “GAGA Green Fighter” as its environmental spokesperson. Wearing a green outfit made of environmental friendly materials and holding the Earth in its palm, GAGA urges for “cherishing the resources of the earth and fulfilling the responsibilities of environmental protection”. During the campaign, NWDS staff will wear GAGA Green Fighter badge to demonstrate their commitments on environmental protection.
Ms. Rebecca Woo, Director of Corporate Affairs and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS said, “NWDS has been gearing up its environmental protection efforts in recent year and has incorporated many green elements into our business operations, staff activities as well as marketing campaigns. Last year, the Company established the Sustainability Steering Committee, an organization that takes lead to formulate some of the corporate’ green targets and implement the relevant measures. Earlier this year, NWDS worked with Philips and Shenzhen GCL in an EMC partnership to transform its stores’ lighting system that requires literally zero upfront investment from the Company. As a result, more than 55% energy consumption can be saved annually. Also, NWDS stores participated in the Earth Hour 2013 this March to switch off all non-essential lights for an hour, jointing hands with others to combat climate changes. Among these staff and customer activities, we strive to spread out the green message to raise their awareness on environmental protection, hence pull a strong action force together to build a greener and better world for our next generation.”
