(19 October 2012 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in the PRC, announced that its nationwide sustainability activity “NWDS Green Mid-Autumn Festival –Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign” gained enthusiastic response from customers, and collected a total of about 5,800 moon cake boxes, promoting resource recycling successfully.

During 21 September to 7 October, customers would receive one certificate with one metal moon cake box or two paper moon cake boxes donation. Making purchases in NWDS stores with the certificate could receive a small environmental friendly gift or extra shopping discounts. Customers who made purchase in store with 2 donation certificates could join lucky draw additionally. All the moon cake boxes collected from customers have been sent to recyclers for further processing and the proceeds gathered were donated to charitable organizations, such as children’s welfare center and senior homes in the respective districts of the stores, while Wuhan Wuchang Branch Store donated the money to buy stationeries for the kindergarten children in need.  

In order to enhance public awareness on resource recycling, themed information board were displayed in all stores to introduce scrap metal recycling conditions in the PRC during the campaign period. Besides advocating for environmental conservation, stores also launched a number of featured activities so as to create a rich festival atmosphere. For example, stores in Wuhan, Chengdu and Shanghai carried out the “Green Lantern Riddle Guessing Game” and encouraged customers to participate into the game to win fabulous prizes. Wuhan Hanyang Branch Store held a Mid-Autumn moon cake exhibition, in which a wide variety of traditional and new style moon cakes in diversified flavors were introduced to customers.

With tremendous support from our customers, we collected nearly 5,800 moon cake boxes and our VIP members increased 25,000 in just half a month time. These data show that our promotional strategy of integrating green elements into marketing campaign on special occasions can drive our business. Moving forward, the Company will continue to organize resource recycling and environmental protection activities, carrying through the spirit of giving back to the community.”
