The Company executed various green measures on operations level, including recycling and reuse of disposable items, reduction of food waste and energy conservation. Brand new shopping bag made of environmental paper and non-woven fabric was launched in all New World Department Stores on 1 June 2008. All supermarkets also started to charge its customers on plastic bags. The Company implemented the above measures in order to encourage consumers to use environmental bag for environmental cause.
In 2008, our stores held a variety of activities for environmental protection. They are namely, Walkathon for Environmental Protection by Changsha New World Department Store, Environmental-friendly Shopping Bag Promotion Campaign jointly initiated by Beijing New World Trendy Department Store, Tianjin New World Department Store and Wuhan New World Department Store - Xudong Branch Store, as well as Tree-planting Festival by Lanzhou New World Department Store.
